Salt and Sanctuary is a rogue-like dungeon crawler that pits your character against hordes of monsters and bosses and rewards you with loot and experience points for surviving. This means that it is a game that encourages you to survive and get stronger, and it is a game that rewards you for doing so. It is, in short, a game that is all about survival.
Shout out to this cool new trailer. I don’t know much about the game itself, but I can tell you that it’s obviously got a lot of potential. The art style and the atmosphere in the trailer is amazing. The music is also very good, and fits the fantasy setting of the game. I looove the song in the trailer, and it really gave me a nostalgic feeling. I’ve played a little bit of the game in the past and I know the old-school gameplay and visuals are in for a revival in the future.
It’s an old trope in games that you can add a friend in a co-op game but when you’re in a multiplayer game you’re only capable of playing as a single person. The RPG Salt and Sanctuary features a cooperative option, which is great for a single player but let’s players who want to play in a multiplayer game. Enter Salt and Sanctuary’s multiplayer co-op. Instead of a traditional versus mode, Salt and Sanctuary offers a co-op mode where players can fight side by side against waves of enemies. The co-op mode is a bit different from a traditional multiplayer game, but it’s a neat idea.
Salt and Sacrifice will feature multiplayer aspects when it launches in Q1 2023 for PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Ska Studios said that online cooperative multiplayer will be “drop-in, drop-out.” Details were few at the moment, however during the Future Game Show at Gamescom, the team revealed more information about the system, including its PvP features.
As a Marked Inquisitor, players must hunt out corrupt wizards in order to purify the Altarstone Kingdom’s territory. That was all we knew. It’s obvious now that other players will be able to either assist or hinder that effort.
The Shroud Alliance (PvP) and the Blueheart Runners were featured in a video that premiered at the Future Game Show, showing two of the groups that would offer assistance or “wreak chaos”: the Shroud Alliance (PvP) and the Blueheart Runners (PvEvP). It was also revealed that via a password system, gamers would be able to go through the full Salt & Sacrifice campaign with a partner.
The summoning candle is used to start multiplayer, and it can only be utilized by individuals who have atoned for their sins by eating a Guiltless Shard. Atonement, as Developer James Silva explains in the video above, enables players to call friends to battle AI foes, but it also invites the Shroud Alliance to invade.
When invaded, you may summon allies automatically, much as in Dark Souls 3, if other players are wearing a “amulet of the Oathbound Watcher.” This invasion and protection mechanism seems to be more familiar to Soulslike veterans, but it’s unclear if invaders under the Shroud Alliance would face AI opponents on their route to an Inquisitor.
Those that play as Blueheart Runners have a somewhat different job ahead of them, concentrating on PvEvP while battling other players and collecting Ashes of the Hazeburnt. The Hazeburnt are a “horde of zombie-like monsters that have succumbed to the Spellmark curse,” according to Silva.
The explanation is intriguing since it’s unclear whether the Hazeburnt are connected to the vanquished players’ shades in any manner (think a take on the bloodstain system in Dark Souls).
Slaying Hazeburnt, however, spawns Hazewraiths, who, according to Silva, would “chase your pursuers” by continuously entering and hunting other players. In this mode, up to four players (2v2) may battle at the same time.
Salt and Sacrifice, the follow-up to 2016’s Salt and Sanctuary, still has a lot of unknowns. Keep an eye out for more.
