Peyton Manning and Tom Brady have been friends for a long time, and they’ve had some great moments together. The two quarterbacks were teammates in New England from 2001-2002.
Peyton Manning discusses his bond with Tom Brady, and how it is a special friendship.
Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have been seen as bitter rivals throughout their careers. Manning was drafted first overall by the Indianapolis Colts in 1998 and quickly became the team’s starting quarterback. Brady, on the other hand, joined the league two years later after being chosen 199th overall in the 2000 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots, and became a starter in his second year after Drew Bledsoe’s injury. Brady won 17 of their 17 meetings throughout the course of their careers, with an 11-6 record. Many people were taken aback when Brady shared a picture of himself and Manning on Twitter in 2019 with the phrase “Spoiler alert…
We’d been pals for a long time. It’s always a pleasure to see you, Peyton!”
Brady is someone Manning admires.
Despite their intense on-field competition, Manning claimed in a recent interview on “Good Morning America” that he was able to develop a relationship with Brady. During the interview, Manning stated, “I always thought he brought out the best in me and vice versa for him.” Manning’s invitation to Brady to attend his Hall of Fame induction in Canton, Ohio, was the clearest sign of their relationship. Brady accepted the offer and traveled to Canton alongside head coach Bruce Arians, assistant coach Clyde Christensen, and offensive consultant Tom Moore from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Manning addressed his relationship with Brady, now 44, during an HBO Back on the Record interview with Bob Costas. “I believe there was always just tremendous respect on the perspective of things,” Manning said, adding that he had always assumed Brady watched a lot of movies and spent a lot of time with his receivers. During a portion of the interview broadcast on HBO’s YouTube page, he stated, “I didn’t know it but I assumed that.”
When they participated in the Pro Bowl, in charity golf tournaments, and when eating together, he eventually got to know Brady better. “Then, all of a sudden, we’re chatting about concepts and how we watch movies to attempt to better each other’s craft,” Manning said. Manning remarked of his relationship with Brady, “So it’s been a great friendship.”
Manning stated that although he wanted to defeat his opponent and give his best for his team, he also wanted to show respect to the players he faced. Brady will enter his 22nd NFL season, and his second with the Buccaneers, whom he guided to their first Super Bowl championship since 2002 with a 31-9 victory against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV.
Two Buccaneers linemen have been added to the COVID-19 list.
The Buccaneers put offensive lineman Nick Leverett and Earl Watford on injured reserve on Friday, according to Luke Easterling of USA Today, meaning they won’t be available when Tampa Bay plays the Houston Texans in their final preseason game on Saturday. Three Buccaneers, including kicker Ryan Succop, are presently on the COVID-19 list.
The actions occurred only days after Arians claimed the Buccaneers were free of COVID-19 problems.
The Buccaneers have unveiled their Super Bowl license plates.
The Buccaneers and the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles recently released a specialized lineup of license plates to commemorate the team’s Super Bowl LV win, according to Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com. At the bottom of the plate will be the Buccaneers’ flag logo, Super Bowl LV, and the words “Super Bowl Champions.” The license plates are currently available at all state tax collector offices and license plate companies.
